Now, perhaps it's just me, but lately I've noticed a drastic rise in the usage of the word "gay" as
a negative thing. Now, put aside the fact that that word is used to describe homosexual men and women and go waaaay back to
4th grade when you asked the teacher what it meant. It meant, (according to the Webster's New World Dictionary that sits by
my computer,) gay - adj. 1. joyous and lively; merry; happy; lighthearted 2. bright; brilliant (gay colors) 3. given to social
life and pleasures (a gay life) 4. wanton; licentious 5. n. a homosexual, esp., a homosexual man. SYN. lively. Note how the
part of speech changes when using the word gay to refer to a homosexual rather than a state of being. A noun is not a descriptor,
for those of you who were asleep in English, or never reached that level (as I often assume of people who use gay in a derrogatory
way.) A noun is a person, place, or thing. In that, saying something (or someone, Goddess forbid) is gay and meaning it as
a slam is a great example of your misunderstanding of the word usage in the English language as well as your utter disregard
for the intelligence of the person you are speaking to, although most people I have heard called 'gay' respond as though the
glove has been thrown down for the final time.
That was for the uneducated public schooled teenagers.
Now for the straight, WHITE, middle-aged (i.e. BABY BOOMERS) men (I do generalize here) who also see
fit to use this word.
Boys, boys, boys. YES, you are insecure. YES, we all know now, aside from your sons who may also find
your comments funny in some lewd, bigoted way. Get over your insecurities. The world HAS CHANGED. Not only has it changed,
but it changed without ever seeking your permission! Imagine that! The world does not revolve around you!! (I find Baby Boomer
white men to think that the Earth revolves around them.... and in some cases, the gravitational pull exerted by that fat is
almost enough to make it so...) And ya know what's more? The world is going to KEEP changing and YOU can't do a thing but
stomp your little impotent feet!!!
Homosexuality is becoming more and more accepted as a different way of life. (I don't like the word
alternative.) You are destroying YET ANOTHER generation of children, the way your fathers destroyed you. Stop the cycle. Bigotry
is bigotry no matter how you mask it and hatred is hatred no matter how funny it can be. No matter what you believe, it is
very likely that homosexuals do not interact with you, oh middle-aged middle-class American men, and it is almost certain
that their lifestyle in no way effects you other than that you may have to hear about it on your evening sit-coms. If you
don't like it - I have a revolutionary concept for you - TURN OFF THE TV and go about your hum-drum life. Indeed, let homosexuals
go about their hum-drum lives, too.
