I am a fast food employee who has worked at McDonalds for over a year now. I am 17. Us fast food workers
are often misunderstood. Here are some examples:
1. Sometimes there is a long line of people at the front counter, but only 1 person taking orders while
a bunch of other employees stand around doing nothing. That is not because we are lazy, it is because we don't have a designated
register to take order on. Each register is only allowed to be used by one person so that if the drawer comes up short, it
can be blamed on that person.
2. Granted, sometimes fast food emploees are extreme idiots but many of us have good intentions, and
I would say most of the time when a customer's order is messed up in the drive thru, it is the customers fault (although we
would never say that to them). They don't know how to order, or they don't speak loudly enough so we can barely hear them.
And this happens way too often: a customer orders something and then pulls off before paying without telling us so then EVERYBODY'S
order gets messed up! And starting your order with "I would like a number 2", followed by "ummm a number 3" is not helpful
when the customer means that they want a number 3 INSTEAD of a number 2. To me, that sounded like they wanted a number 2 AND
a number 3.
Bottom line: yes there are some real idiots who work at fast food places but I would say for the most
part it's either an accident on the employee's part or on the customer's part or the customer is just plain retarded, again
something you would never hear walking into a fast food place if you were the customer.
What a well-spoken 17 year old. Kudos, my friend, and thank you for including a section of the
fast food industry I completely left out: the customers.
