See it! See it again! I honestly thought this movie would be very much like another Starship Troopers
with funnier dialogue. Galaxy Quest really did turn out to be a pretty funny show, but more than that, a good show. Alright,
I admit Sigourney Weaver plays the woman who plays the dumb sex-object and, indeed, she turns out to have one great line that
is based around her being the dumb sex-object, but oh well. She looks really, impressively good in this picture. Tim Allen
doesn't suck as much as I expected him to. I am not a fan of "Home Improvement" nor was I ever a fan of his stand-up comedy.
He's almost tolerable in his leading actor, self-infatuated, juvenile state. Alan Rickman plays the penultimate victim of
type-casting and spends most of the movie bitching wittily with a funky thing on his head. His character has been type-cast
into sitting in his own apartment with his character makeup on. I loved that scene. To get a sense of what you'll see him
go through think Spok or Warf or Quark.
Now then, onto what makes this movie a year-end favorite of mine.... Tony Shalhoub!!! I loved
him on the series Wings; I loved him in Men In Black, but he truly is marvy in Galaxy Quest. I had a friend say that his character
was me and I took that as a compliment. I have recently adopted the pharse "I love these floors" into my repertoire of sayings.
You'll know why when you see it and listen closely.
Galaxy Quest is a movie for Trekkies, Star Wars fans, and any of the other sci-fi shows with cult followings,
but it's not about the fans, it's about the actors. This is a new take on sci-fi for me and I was completely digging
it throughout the show. What a great comedy. This is definitely one to get on home video or home DVD.
